Reasons People Take Out Short Term Car Insurance

Several car insurance policies are still sold for one year. As during the year insurance needs may change from time to time for some drivers, temporary automobile insurance is now on offer from some specialist providers.

Temporary car insurance is usually defined as cover for one month or less. However, there are now a number of specialist insurance companies who now offer flexible insurance for between one to six months.

Highly flexible insurance can now be provided for drivers on a pay as you go basis. This provides the option of not having to pay for insurance when it won’t be needed.

There are several situations where 1 day temporary cover may be appropriate. One of the most common is making sure you are protected when borrowing a friends auto. Securing an additional policy for this could protect a no claims bonus built up. This could therefore be an economical option for careful drivers.

Another reason temporary insurance is taken out is to provide insurance for an additional driver so driving can be shared on a longer trip or vacatio.

Providing temp insurance cover for a foreign visitor is a situation where short term cover may be required. As is securing cover for one day when buying a new vehicle and needing drive away insurance to take it home. Taking a test drive and requiring insurance for 24 hours can be another eventuality.

Many of us who drive a van, won’t actually own it. This can be where van cover for two months is required, when you are borrowing a van for differing situations.

For those bikers that are planning a summer road trip, temp bike insurance could be a solution if the bike you are riding is not one you use regularly. This may prove economical if they will only be riding while they are away and usually drive their car when at home.
