Refinishing Your Hardwood Flooring

To save you money, you can just refinish your hardwood flooring instead of replacing the tiles. Refinishing your hardwood floor will not only save you money but time as well. The shine and beauty of your hardwood floors will be restored in just a few steps. That’s what you are going to learn on this page.

Sanding,Staining and then Finishing are the three basic steps of Refinishing  your hardwood floors. The rest of the article will teach you each of these steps.

The first thing you need to do is to sand your hardwood floor. Make sure though that you sweep the floor first to remove all dirt and debris. It is wise to remove  nails or tacks before sanding. Utilizing a 20-grit sandpaper, start sanding around the corner of the room.

After sanding you have to decide if you want to stain your floor. If you think your floor does not need staining then you can go ahead to the finishing stage. If you decide to stain the floor then you need to vacuum or sweep the floor first. Then, apply some stain by brushing your floors. The stain will need some drying time of about five minutes or longer. If you think the floor needs a second coat you may apply another one using your brush.

And lastly, apply 3 to 4 coats of polyurethane. Whether you stain or not, you must seal the entire floor with a wool cover or a thick nap roller. Make sure that the first coat is dry before applying the second one,the drying interval of each coat application is three to six hours. The drying time actually varies according to the brand of polyurethane you will be using. Thus, it’s very important to know the type of polyurethane you will be applying to make sure of how long you will wait for floors to dry.

So there you go, your three steps to hardwood floor refinishing. Hardwood floor refinishing is very simple and easy task and will make your floor beautiful in an economical way.
