Is The Guitar The Coolest Musical Instrument Of All?

When compared to just about any other musical instrument out there, it’s hard to dispute that the guitar is extremely cool. Sure, the drums have their fans and there’s something primal about beating on those skins but the guitar can go pretty much anywhere and a drum set can’t. Indeed, most men instantly know that the guitar is the primo, number one instrument of all time.

For most guys who don’t have the musculoskeletal structure to carry around a complete twenty piece, hard-rocking heavy metal drum set on their backs, it’s the guitar by a landslide. Certainly the instrument has done its part to make more men and boys try to learn to play it than anything else ever has ever gotten men and boys to attempt something. Even one of those big dreadnought acoustic guitar rigs has a hold on men and boys unlike most any other instrument.

Besides, women really seem to dig men who can play a musical instrument and especially men who can appear to be masters of the guitar. Actually, they may not really like the guy playing the guitar but the sounds coming from it can go a long way towards helping them get over the pushy guy doing the playing. In truth, most men never become that good but all of them believe that they can, so they have that going for them, fortunately.

Take a moment to consider one of those very nice acoustic guitars like maybe an Alvarez acoustic guitar. It’s made with precision and beauty and many men go weak in the knees at the thought of learning enough to be able to play it well. Realistically, only one in 1000 men will ever really be able to do so, but they have their fantasies and this particular one is generally harmless.

Guitars have really come to dominate cultural music perspective over the last half-century from the time when Chuck Berry first started duck walking across the stage to the sweet sounds of a melodic rendition of ‘Johnny B. Goode.’ And though the whole Chuck Berry thing is meant to be humorous, it’s still true that a guy sitting around with even an acoustic guitar eventually tries to figure out the opening run to that song, no matter his age.

And that’s the ultimate attraction to the guitar; because playing it — whether sitting down with a very expensive Takamine acoustic guitar or a nice electric axe — is nothing but fun. And when somebody really gets good, and is able to pick up a nice Gibson Les Paul and start wailing on it, the world is truly their oyster.

Taken altogether, it’s hard to dispute that the guitar holds a prime place in the world of music. Certainly, it grabs hold of many boys and men in a way that even the most beautiful leather baseball glove can never do. There’s just something about picking up a guitar, no matter if it’s an acoustic or an electric, that helps people feel better about themselves and about the people around them, and that’s a good thing in the end.
