What Dallas Heating And AC Advices Will Make Your Air Conditioner Stays In Good Condition?
December 8th, 2009 Posted 10:00 pm
Air conditioners regularly fail at the worst possible times. When it is very hot, you do not need your air conditioner to all of a sudden stop working. But if it does, there are some simple steps you can take to fix the problem yourself. Below is a list of the 4 most common air conditioning problems encountered, with some recommendation on the simplest way to fix them.
1. Check The Controller – If the controller has been wrongly used, the air conditioner will not function. HVAC systems have different settings for cooling and heating, and your air conditioner will not function if the wrong setting is used. If you’re still struggling, try looking in your operation manual or ask the contractor who sold you the system for recommendation.
2. Clean The Filters – So many air conditioners struggle because the owners don’t clean the filters. Cleaning the filter is ongoing upkeep that you should be performing one or more times every few months. Cleaning your air conditioners filters can regularly fix a problem straight away.
3. Examine The Compressor – If your compressor fails your whole aircon system will fail. Check around the compressor for any signs of damage or wear and tare. Listen to the compressor for any irregular noises. Look around the compressor for ice build up also. If you notice any of these things, it may be a sign of a rather more serious problem and you should call in an aircon contractor to inspect the system.
4. Reset The Power – Just like computers, a simple reset can regularly fix a hvac system. All you want to do is go to the meter box and turn the unit off. If fitted, there might also be an isolator switch at the compressor you may also turn off. Turn both these switches off for 1 or 2 minutes before turning back on. It’s a easy thing to try but it works rather a lot of the time.
If you have tried all these points, hopefully you have has some success and your air conditioner is now working. If not, it is time to call in the airconditioning contractor.

Could There Be Dust Mites Hiding In Your Home?
August 13th, 2009 Posted 5:13 pm
You probably think you are well acquainted with everyone you live with – family, friends, housemates, perhaps a pet. But most UK homes have unseen unwelcome house guests. They are ugly creepy crawlies, they look like bizarre alien creatures from a science fiction film, and they could be making their home in your bed right now. I’m talking of course about dust mites, the hidden menace in the home, which can’t be seen by the naked eye but manage to cause trouble wherever they go.
Aside from the slightly disturbing knowledge that they could be living in your carpets and bedding, dust mites are also one of the most common causes of asthma, eczema and an endless list of other inconvenient allergies. Technically it’s dust mites’ droppings rather than the actual mites that cause problems, as they are coated in a highly allergenic enzyme which causes a reaction in over 20% of the population. They feast on the 50 million dead skin cells every human sheds each day, and it can be a nightmare getting rid of them completely. Tough, but far from impossible. If you suspect mites could be living in your home, there are three important things to remember:
Keep it Clean – the most obvious way to stop dust mites is to get rid of the dust. They like to live in ‘dust bunnies’ and deep in the carpet pile so regular hoovering, daily if you have to, will not only suck many of them out of the carpet but cut off the food supply to those that are left behind. Leave windows open whenever the weather is good enough as they don’t like sunlight, and are so small that many of them will get blown away completely in a breeze!
Keep it Fresh –You might not think air quality would have much effect on dust mites considering they live in the carpet and furnishings, but in fact the right air conditioner could make all the difference. Even if you hoover every day the dust particles still have time to settle and for the mites to make new homes. Installing an air purifier with a HEPA filter literally removes all particles larger than 0.0003mm from the air before they get the chance to settle, meaning less food for mites.
Keep it Dry – Dust mites like to live in homes where the relative humidity (RH) of the air is above 50%. Different people have different ideas of the recommended RH in a home and it varies depending on where you live, but it is usually around 45%. If the normal humidity level in your home is anywhere above 50% it’s worth taking steps to reduce it as this will not only stop the mites but can also improve the general health of people living in the house. Basic things like keeping windows open when cooking or showering can make a difference but if the problem persists then using a dehumidifier is a quick and easy way to remove moisture from the air, maintaining the optimum RH and killing dust mites dead!
