Food Gifts Simplify My Life

Fighting my way through a crowded store with my arms full of packages is not my first choice of hobbies. My mother adores shopping, but I did not inherit that part of her genetic composition. The part that I despise the most, however, is trying to figure out what gifts everyone would actually enjoy and appreciate. I used to have this ever present fear that all of my gift shopping efforts usually resulted in a rushed trip back to the store or, worse, out to the dumpster. Well almost all of it.

Of course, I actually discovered food when I was still an infant, but it didn’t occur to me as a great gift until I had suffered through many rounds of birthdays, baby showers, and countless other events that seem to always pop up. I received a gift basket of little sausages, spreadable cheeses and plain crackers. It was terrible! At the same time, though, I thought what a great gift this could have been. I’m a little embarassed to admit this, but I am a gift giving catastrophe waiting to happen.  I guess it’s not really that I’m bad about the presenting part, itself.  Whenever it is gift-giving time, it just takes me an extremely long time to move beyond the decision stage.  I don’t know why my ideas seem to me to lack any originality or creativity.  I’m sure you’ve already figured out the solution to my despair: the Internet.
