Kitchen’s Only Get Used Once a Day Right?
March 17th, 2010 Posted 6:10 am
Every house has an argument over how the kitchen needs to be done at some point, and why not make it a nice designer kitchen if you have the money. Do people really need the enormous kitchens they have? Do you really need one of those big fancy designer kitchens wine its own built in wine cooler? In all honesty I have never understood the need for a big kitchen and never understood why people try so hard to have such a fantastic kitchen when all you do is cook in it but there you have it. So how come people will spend so much money on thier brand new kitchen when they only use it once a day to cook in? The thing is, I have no idea myself
I think what it really comes down to is how competitive you like being and how many dinner parties you have.
One of the first things you do as person when entering a new house is get invited into the kitchen. I’ll say again I’ve got no idea why this happens either but it does and the first thing to happen is that everyone will comment or think on how good or bad your kitchen looks. It’s what us human’s do sadly, we judge. I don’t understand why, I never will but we do, so on with the question; how big and fancy does the kitchen need to be before people recognise it as being a half decent kitchen? If people are going to judge everything from your flooring to your choice of dinnerware, is there much point trying to impress at all?
Well there have been for several years in my house, debates on whether or not we should get an extension in the house purely for a bigger kitchen. I will never get a big kitchen myself as I would never use it and there would be no point me wasting the money. In our house and I’m sure most houses it’s really only used to cook dinner and there is usually only one person doing the cooking. Why after having people in your own kitchen do you feel like it’s not good enough? The answer is, people care what other people think about their homes and I really don’t see why. As well as this there are some fantastic top of the range kitchens out there as well as the bespoke kitchens that you design yourself. You can customise everything from your lighting plan to the style of your wine rack I really find it hard to understand why people spend so much money on kitchens, then again some of them are amazing.

Lets Take a Look at Cuisinart Food Processors
March 2nd, 2010 Posted 1:34 pm
Many different Cuisinart food processors are available for purchase, and it’s extremely tough to select the most effective of all the Cuisinart processors, such as the Cuisinart BFP-703CH Blender/Food Processor, since much depends on every users’ individual requirements. Several machines suffer from negative reviews since the contents were either over-processed or under-processed, but mostly those complaints are a consequence of not reading the accompanying manual that Cuisinart makes available.
Also, several were called exceedingly difficult to clean effectively. Several of the better Cuisinart food processors were given high marks when a higher percentage of the parts were detachable and as a consequence easier to sanitize, as opposed to the models that had employed one-piece assemblies of some of their components.
The Cuisinart DLC-X Plus Food Processor is intended for cooks who cater or have small restaurants. It uses a bowl that could hold 20 cups, three slicing disks for thin, medium, and thicker slices, in addition to a shredding disk, a dough hook, and even uses a “whole-sized fruit and vegetable feed tube”, although if you don’t usually make grand amounts of food in your kitchen, this appliance will not be very useful for the average cook, but it is positively graded by users in just about every test performed.
Many consumers are especially taken with the Cuisinart DLC-2014 Power Prep Plus as it includes a large 14 cup bowl, thus it will effortlessly deal with three pounds of cookie dough, or fourteen cups of sauce. However it sells for a good chunk of change, although if you are shopping for the absolute “best” product that Cuisinart could make for the professional chef, this could validate the price. Those who have used this machine state that it is quite consistent at slicing and dicing; they appreciated the extra capacity, on top of its superlative performance at kneading dough. It capably accomplished many heavy-duty food processing operations. Many cooks said that they were very taken aback that it had a three-year warranty from Cuisinart as opposed to the usual annual warranty which has been previously offered for Cuisinart’s food processors.
The Cuisinart Model # DLC-8S is regarded as a custom food processor. It uses an exclusively designed containment apparatus accompanied by a super-sized feed tube which includes a very exceptional lid for safe shredding and kneading. Each of those attachments are powered by Cuisinart’s heavy duty motor, that so many cooks appreciate because of the power that it provides for the busy cook. This 11-cup food processor has been recognized as a powerhouse that is built for both ease of use and providing years of use. Nearly all users genuinely love the convenient “whole-sized fruit and vegetable feed tube” as mentioned above. It has a comprehensive 5-year motor warranty but a limited 3-year warranty on the entire unit. Another great model is the Cuisinart BFP-703CH Blender/Food Processor.
Cuisinart DLC-10S is a small sized device for consumers who do not want the large machines which could handle family reunion-sized volumes. This example is a 7-cup sized food processor that is said to be intended to perform the usual kitchen requirements for chopping, pureeing and even kneading although the volumes must be kept small. It comes with a comprehensive five-year warranty regarding the motor while Cuisinart offers a conditional 3-year warranty on the entire unit. Many of the criticisms on this food processor have come from consumers who maintain that the replacement parts in addition to the disks and blades have proved very costly.

Getting a Quality Knife Set for the Ages
March 2nd, 2010 Posted 1:34 pm
With a history spanning almost two centuries, Wusthof still provides the world with well-made kitchen knives and shears, pocket knives, and other accessories. Headquartered in Solingen, Germany, this manufacturer remains under the control of family members and currently employs in excess of 350 employees, each of whom, you may assume are committed to creating each Wusthof knife set as sharp as its standing.
Product Lines
The Wusthof knives are produced through two methods – forging for their higher-quality line and stamping for the low-end line. Consequently, conditional to your budget, you might enjoy being the proud owner of the legendary Wusthof knives but possibly at varying levels of sharpness.
The forged knives come from the Classic, Ikon, Classic Ikon, Le Cordon Bleu, Culinar, Grand Prix, and Grand Prix II lines while the stamped knives can be found in the Gourmet, Emeril, and Silverpoint lines. There is a sharp difference between forged and stamped cutlery in each expensive knife collection, with experienced cooks selecting forged knives most of the time to be used as their chef’s knives. Stamped knives are normally only preferred for steak and paring knives.
Whatever Wusthof knives set you decide upon, though, each of these knives are comprised of 15 percent chromium, 0.5 percent carbon, and a small amount of molybdenum. Together with the company logo – a trident in a circle against a red background – these cutlery pieces are distinctive from thier competitors’ knives.
Advantages
Without sounding like an advertisment for Wusthof, their knives are considered time and again to be one of the best knives on the market. Proof of this statement is Wusthof knives are the favorite kitchen knife of expert chefs like Gordon Ramsay, Jamie Oliver and James Martin, in addition to being routinely judged as one of the best performing knives by Consumer Reports and Cook’s Illustrated.
For non-professionals, the easily controlled traditional handle lends itself comfortably to a variety of hand sizes and therefore allows many guests or spouses to feel confident handling the knives in a Wusthof set. Naturally, Wusthof knife blades are extremely sharp and just about never rust, stain or lose their edge. More than any other issues, top-notch manufacturing processes and materials are the main characteristics of a quality knife.
Disadvantages
The one factor that could dissuade the amatuer from purchasing a Wusthof knife set would be the expensive price. With the most affordable set of low-end Gourmet paring knives costs around $35, you can locate different knife brands selling more knives while charging comparable prices. For the many Wusthof sets, $300 is peanuts.
Also, Wusthof makes products that have thinner-than-usual handles like the Wusthof Classic. Naturally, men are more sensitive to this situation on account of their larger hands. Furthermore, certain cooks do not prefer a stainless steel handle, but instead favor the polypropylene type.
By and large, Wusthof knife sets will give substantial value for your money. It slices very nicely and efficiently like all high-quality knives ought to, performs for generations as this manufacturer has done, and looks very professional when placed on your countertop. With a knife set such as this, you might decide to purchase one more set as a gift for your favorite hostess.

Flooring For Your Kitchen
July 5th, 2009 Posted 8:10 am
The kitchen can be a challenging area to provide flooring for. On one hand, the kitchen flooring must remain flexible enough to support the legs and back. On the other hand, however, the flooring must keep out water and food to maintain its appearance. The best flooring looks great for years without a lot of maintenance. Spills and accidents will occur frequently, putting a strain on any flooring that is installed in the kitchen area. To prevent serious maintenance problems and future expenses, it pays to install the right kind of flooring to begin with.
Wood flooring has traditionally been seen in kitchen flooring, but it can lead to high maintenance costs. Wood aborbs moisture, causing it to warp and crack over time. When a wood floor absorbs too much moisture it can begin to bow up or down in the middle, leading to a surface that must be replaced or sanded down. The only solution to this problem is to sand down the bowing section, or to go the expensive route and replace the floor. Neither of these are very attractive options, and involve many hours as well as thousands of dollars. While a properly finished and maintained wood floor may resist these problems, wood flooring is definitely more likely to break down because of these problems.
Slate and ceramic tile are more reliable. Tile and slate do not suffer from water exposure, and do not suffer from warping or cracking. As fairly tough materials, they experience little expansion or contraction.
Slate and ceramic flooring are available in a broad range of colors and shades. Slate and ceramic flooring are very resistant to slipping, making them a safer surface to use in the kitchen as well. Hardwood flooring may be hazardous when wet, especially if it has been exposed to moisture. When using slate as a kitchen surface, be sure to go with a low gloss or finish for extra slip protection.
Laminate flooring is also another viable option in the kitchen. To achieve that hardwood look without the maintenance issues, laminate flooring can be a wonderful option. Laminate flooring is easy to install, affordable, and very resistant to both absorbing moisture and food stains.
Laminate flooring is also engineered to work under heavy loads and traffic. The kitchen is a demanding place for flooring, and should be given flooring that will withstand as much. Choosing the right kind of flooring will give homeowners lasting durability, with low maintenance requirements.
