A very popular subject for some artists is painting dogs: the humble and loving man’s best friend. These canine pictures are very popular because they are much loved by all. In fact, these pets are regarded as members of the family. There are also artists who have become expert at painting dogs.

Measuring 31 cm × 26 cm (12″ × 10″), “Melencolia I” is an enigmatic composition and is considered an all time masterpiece. Albrecht Durer created the print in grey, which supports the serious mood of the engraving. A brooding winged woman is seated at the centre of the image. Her head rests on her left hand, while she clutches a divider in the other. She bears a serious expression on her face and looks disillusioned, as if resigned in defeat. She is surrounded by a disarray of geometric and architectural tools (such as a sphere, scale, nails, saw, hammer), which may be indicative of her being someone of intellect and involved in creative arts. She is wearing a wreath of flowers on her head.

Painting house professionals can save people like you and me a lot of time, money and anxiety.  People make the mistake of thinking they can paint the house and save some money, I know I have. That is just not true especially if they don’t know what they are doing. Painting can be tricky and there are subtle and not so subtle nuances to a good paint job. By the time you finish buying the paint and all the associated tools, you probably spend just about as much as if you had hired someone in the first place.

There is a slight controversy on the “I” in the title. Some art masters believed the “I” stood for roman numeral one and that Durer intended to make a series of the four temperaments, Melancholic, Phlegmatic, Choleric, and Sanguine. However the German humanist writer Cornelius Agrippa suggested that the “I” actually stood for imaginative (which means imagination).

Many commissioners want dog paintings that are restful or even sleeping. Once again this requires some skill in providing the right aura. When the eyes are not visible then the anatomy of the animal is more noticeable. One part of the animal’s body that must be completely life like are the paws. Certain breeds place their paws in a graceful pose when sleeping. The painter should make the most of this characteristic to highlight the gracefulness of particular breeds.

I think about painting house time as an easy way to increase my investment. Relatively speaking painting is cheap while being the most noticeable upgrade you can get. To me, this small layout of money adds up to big bucks as far as value goes. And, not having to do it myself is worth a lot to me. So, the next time you think about painting you home yourself, or having your kids or some local enterprising teenager do it on the cheap, think hard, then hire a pro.
