Why on many sculptures and paintings, from the early 20th century and back, men would have small genitals?

Is there a reason as to why on most paintings and sculptures, back then, men would have small genitals? Does it signify anything?

How has mass media affected r experience of traditional works of fine art as in orginal paintings & sculptures

To sum it up a little better… How has mass media affected our outlook? I would think from television and newspapers first but, what orginal paintings and scultpures? What else other then newspapers and tv?
