Value of Hummel Figurines
The Value of Hummel Figurines
In order to get an idea of why Hummel figurines are as valuable as they are, we need to cover a little bit of history. So hang on for
the short ride and then we will get to the points that make these figurines so "priceless."
It all started in 1867 when Franz Goebel started his porcelain making company. His son, William took the line to the US with the help of
his son, and changed the company name to W. Goebel Porzellanfabrik. This is important to note when looking for distinguishing marks on any
Hummel figurines you want appraised. Anyhow, to make a long story a bit shorter, the line was such a success they revamped the factory to
bring it into the 20th century.
And now here comes the Hummel part of this line's history. Franz knew during the 1930's when the world was such an uncertain place to
live, that people would identify with innocent children. The work of Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel came to his attention. Clay
models were created based on the Sister's original work. The line took off from there.
How do you know if your Hummel is an original? Sister Hummel asked that her personal approval be stamped into every piece. Look
for three things to determine if the Hummel figurine is original: the mark of Sister Hummel, a mold number on the bottom, and the official Goebel
trademark. Several models have actually been appraised at hundreds to thousands of dollars. Wow! Just imagine.
